Major Past Disasters in Nepal

Full history ?

Nepal sits in one of the world's most disaster-prone regions seismically active, glacially dynamic, and subject to intense monsoon rainfall. The country has experienced devastating earthquakes, floods, and landslides throughout its modern history.

2015 Gorkha Earthquake

The M7.8 earthquake killed approximately 8,970 people and devastated 14 districts including the Kathmandu Valley. It remains Nepal's deadliest recent disaster.

2026 Nepal Floods

A glacier collapse near Langtang Lirung triggered a catastrophic flood down the Trishuli corridor, killing 903+ people and leaving more than 4,200 missing on the Nepal side. This is the disaster NepalDisaster.com was built to cover.

2014 Sunkoshi Landslide

A massive landslide in Sindhupalchok dammed the Sunkoshi river, killing 156 people and cutting off communities for weeks.

1993 Nepal Floods

Catastrophic monsoon floods across central and southern Nepal killed 1,336 people, ranking among the deadliest non-seismic disasters in Nepal's history.
